Flip Flops

It was an early (for an artist) morning, I was still sleeping and then the phone rang. Unknown number. I answered. It was Nick from Etiko, who told about how they saw my designs somewhere and got contacts and would like me to make some drawings for thongs. At that time I was still very new to Australia. I am still afraid of speaking with people via phone, because sometimes I just don’t understand. And then. I was still sleeping. What? Why? Thongs? The only thing I could think of was… underwear thongs 🙂

But it was all about Australia’s favorite footwear – flip flops. I had to create few designs each of them represents some organisation or charity project.  And everything is fair trade made!

It took me a while to take a picture of finished product but there they are.

See the koala! We were camping, koalas were roaring all night, so I look not very fresh in the morning, but I have nice footwear at least!

Get them there!

Paper Sea

Paper Sea is amazing magazine about sea, photography, surf, art and people. And I was bloody lucky – I got featured in it.  Next time I promise to add more pictures.

And now – just be sure to visit their website and feel the summer!

Peace.

Fur and whiskers

I had a wonderful opportunity to exhibit few my works in impressive exhibition at off the Kerb gallery.

It was about animals, fur and whiskers and collected donations to help animal shelters and things like that. When I delivered the art I saw this in the middle of the room. I always imagined a taxidermy specialist as an old crazy looking man, but the artist was just a young, friendly looking guy, love that surprise. He carefully took the fox out of box.
“It’s not finished”- said he. “I need to brush hair.”

Exhibition showed works in different media, from taxidermy (Adapting Through Planes by Tul Suwannakit) to video projection (Untitled by Cloe Mann).

Just a few artworks. The exhibition will still be there till 19th of October.

And me 🙂

And I love red dots. Especially during the opening night!

Bath

I don’t know why, but I love drawing bathtubs and bathrooms.

Even when studying I used the image of bathtub twice. I was just learning how to draw in vectors back then 😀

Even though bathrooms might be a pretty boring, there is something special about them. I remember standard bathroom in some block buildings in Vilnius. Bathrooms were tiny with a little window very high, near the ceiling looking to the kitchen. It was probably for the light saving. High enough so no one could see you in the bathroom it still looked like some fun for a child. And people used to stick some stickers on the tiles or mirrors. Mostly flowers, sometimes birds and if they were lucky enough to get these – some cartoon or animation characters. If you still have them in your bathroom – take a picture for me.

Some people covered all the walls in the toilet with posters of little cats and dogs. Or other animals. Pages from imported magazines with movie stars. Crazy things.

Finished work. I enjoyed drawing with that blue pencil! Somehow pencil works look very good when printed.

After seeing this a friend reminded this animation made by my animation teacher. It was one of my favorites in the childhood:
